Take me back to "go"...

The U.S. Postal Service expected to handle 200 million pieces of mail on the Monday two weeks before Christmas.

Just how much is 200 million?

Suppose each one were a greeting card.  How high would a stack of 200 million greeting cards be?

Obviously, greeting card thicknesses vary.  To do this problem, measure one and use that as an approximation for your figuring.

Happy stacking.......

Answers to Excursion 2:   Start both timers at the same time.   After 7 minutes, the 7-minute timer will be empty, but the 11 minute timer will still be running.  Leave it running, and flip over the 7 minute timer.  When the 11 minute timer is empty, flip over the 7-minute timer.  There will be 4 minutes worth of sand in the bottom, which will now be flipped to the top.  When it runs out, 15 minutes will have passed.

Ingenious, eh?
