About Newton's Window www.NewtonsWindow.com is a web site designed to bring the splendor of math to students learning it everywhere. To be a resource for the teachers teaching them, and the parents helping them, and the students themselves. Several years ago, while writing a book about brilliance in mathematics, my daughter and I traveled to England to research genius. We spent some time at the home of one of the greatest, Sir Isaac Newton. "I want to look through his windows," I explained.
Mathematics is among the most difficult of subjects. It does not lend itself to shortcuts or easier paths. For some, the path is dreadful. But it need not be. This web site, and its gathered resources, are designed to make the path a better one, for those learning it, those teaching it, and for parents on the sidelines, or in the thick of it. Too many students emerge from their years in mathematics knowing little, and liking it less, never discovering its power, or their own. This web site is designed to change that. In addition to his math and physics, Newton sought to understand the nature of light. Standing at his window at Wooleshorpe, he conducted his experiments with prisms, refracting a single beam of light into a glorious spectrum of colors. This web site is designed to do the same: to show you the colors and glory inside mathematics, and the possibilities inside each student learning it, each teacher teaching it, and each parent cheering alongside. Unlike many math sites, there are no ads here, no unseen affiliations. Membership is free, and access to the whole site is free. Schools and classrooms and groups are welcome to link to us. You're welcome to quote us, and use our material, as long as you identify us as the source, and print our web address with it. We ask you to join us, which costs you nothing, and risks you nothing. Your name will not be given to anyone or any group. It just gives us a bit more information on our readership, and their needs, and gives us a way to let you know when we add some big new thing to the site, like our coming summer math bonanza. Welcome. Stay a while. And come again. We have new things coming, and added often. Drop us a line, and tell us what you'd like to see. Math is tough. And glorious. Come along. www.NewtonsWindow.com |
